Naghmeh Farzaneh is an Iranian animator and filmmaker who entered the animation world after getting her bachelor’s degree in Painting from Alzahra University in Tehran, Iran. Studying and working with Iranian painting masters gave Naghmeh the opportunity to start a professional carrier as a background designer and matte painter for many animation projects in Iran. In 2010 Naghmeh created her first animation, Trapped in Time, based on a series of paintings she did from motifs in ancient Iranian pottery. Originally begun as an exercise to learn the medium, the work screened in more than 10 international festivals around the globe and won more than 6 international awards such as the Audience Award at the Alwan Film Festival in New York City and Best Super Short International Film at the MONSTRA International Animated Film Festival in Lisbon, to mention the few. Naghmeh earned several scholarships for graduate study at several prestigious art institutions in the United States and in Europe. In addition to her work in film and animation, Naghmeh has received recognition for her work in photography and painting, showing in Iran and abroad, including at the 2011 Miami Art Basel (Miami, Florida USA), the 2009 International Roaming Biennial of Tehran (Belgrade, Serbia), and in the Behzad and Anahita Art Galleries (Tehran, Iran). Most recently, Naghmeh has done extensive work in two-dimensional animation, creating works on themes related to her immigration out of Iran, as well as collaborative works with independent artists and filmmakers based in NYC. Naghmeh Farzaneh currently is an adjunct faculty member at the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, New York USA), where she was awarded a scholarship to pursue an MFA in Animation.
